Is this a “jobs” super committee?

Simon Black Reporting from Sovereign Man -

Earlier this month, some economic luminaries in the United States Congress introduced a new bill, H.R. 2835. The bill intends to “establish a joint select committee of Congress to report findings and propose legislation to restore the Nation’s workforce to full employment…”

Great idea, fellas. After failing to ignore your way out of recession, spend your way out of recession, lie your way out of recession, and print your way out of recession, you now intend to legislate your way out of recession.

This bill exemplifies how completely clueless the leadership is, and highlights the common demeanor of the political class.  By definition, people are in government because they believe that government is the solution, not the problem.

Legislating your way to full employment is as fantastical as prancing unicorns and the Tooth Fairy. It’s impossible. The only employment created by legislation are government jobs to staff all those new agencies and bureaus. And naturally, those jobs must come with some task, some responsibility.

With each new job is created an additional burden …

9-11 Never Forget, 10 Year Anniversary

On this tenth anniversary of so many souls being called home through an extreme act of evil, I decided to do something differently.  I previously had chosen to grieve in my usual way – silently and alone with my thoughts.  This year I walked among the thousands of flags and people at “The Healing Field.”

I saw many families taking the several hundred yard walk to get to the base of the hill at the Ski Area just outside Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Healing Field

The young children obviously didn’t understand even as their parents tried so hard to explain the significance of all of the flags.  I wasn’t trying to listen in but I couldn’t help but appreciate their struggle to be honest without scaring the kids.

Flags with Names of the Victims

As I walked among the flags, I took a moment to look at a few of the cards with the names of victims that perished that day.  Honestly it was a relief that I didn’t see any names that I recognized.  My emotions were raw and I’m sure that if I had it would’ve been just about impossible to continue.

I continued the climb to get above the memorial.  As I walked up the hill I was reminded that I wasn’t as young or in as good of shape as I once had been - I felt the unmistakable feeling of my blood sugar having gotten too low.  Between the physical and emotional stress of the experience I had missed the earlier warning signs.  Taking a quick look around I realized that help would be available if I should need it.  ( I saw some ski patrol types cruising around in a golf cart.)  Faced with a choice of continuing up the hill to see that view from above and certainly the more prudent one to reverse course and go back down the hill…  I thought of the heroes that were called home too early ten years ago today and this is what I did….

The Healing Field from above

I climbed above the almost 3000 flags.  (It does look alot steeper when you’re walking up it.)  I had wanted to go to the top of the hill, but that would have assuredly meant a ride down in a golf cart and my ego wasn’t that strong today.  I cried as I watched those flags moving in the breeze as if to say “We’re still here with you as long as you remember, honor our memories and never forget.”
